Palm : embrace Android or die
Android to Palm : "Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated..."
The outlooks are bad for Palm, I just read an article on CNN about Palm : the stock price recently hit a 52 weeks low at 5.29$. It will not get any better with the harsh and ever increasing competition in the smartphone market. Palm could run out of cash within 4 to 6 quarters if they don't return to profitability soon.
I can't think of any other way out for Palm : they have to replace WebOS by Android on their smartphones or die. There is way more applications available out there for Android than there is for WebOS.
WebOS can't compete with Android and Apple in terms of number of applications available. Lets have a look at the numbers of applications available currently for each plateform (as of March 16th 2010):
Android Market : 30,000 applications
iTunes : 140,000 applications
Palm : 2,272 applications
Android is Open Source. Palm engineers could easily take the source code and adapt it to run on the Palm Pre and the Pixi. They don't have to pay a dime to Google and they gain instantly access to 30,000 applications for their devices!
If Palm embrace Android, I swear to buy a Palm Pre!
